Los datos de la imagen se incluyen mediante un esquema especial llamado dаta:, de la misma forma que las URL se indican mediante el esquema http:, las direcciones de correo electrónico mediante el esquema mailto:, etc. El esquema dаta: se define en el estándar RFC 2397 y su sintaxis es la siguiente:

Ahora voy a mostrar cómo generar estas URLs usando las herramienta de desarrollador de tu navegador web:

Google Chrome

1. Cargar la página que contiene la imagen (carga de la imagen directamente no funcionará) y haga clic derecho en él y seleccione  Inspeccionar elemento. (En muchos sitios web el clic derecho está desactivado, como es el caso de tutorialesenlines.es, para solucionarlo ve a Personaliza y controla Google Chorme. como lo muestra la siguiente imagen).2. Usted verá aparecer la consola. Ahora haga clic en el valor del atributo del src de la imagen.

3. Luego estando en el atributo, clic derecho, luego vas a Reveal in Sources panel, como lo muestra la siguiente imagen:
4. La consola pasará a la ficha de Recursos(Sources) y pone de relieve la imagen. Haga clic derecho sobre la imagen y seleccione copiar imagen como URI de datos. (Copy image as data URI).
